The Process
In December 2009, Lend Lease was selected as the preferred developer for Barangaroo South by the Barangaroo Delivery Authority on behalf of the New South Wales Government.
In February 2010, the Authority placed the Barangaroo master plan, including our proposed designs for Barangaroo South, on public display. These winning designs were created by a team of Australian and International architects and landscape architects.
Over the next six months, Lend Lease worked with leading design experts to address a number of design principles identified by the Authority's. It also undertook a range of community engagement initiatives to both explain the plans and to seek feedback from the community.
More than 20,000 people have engaged in the Barangaroo consultation process through public displays, online information, community forums and meetings with local residents. Feedback from these activities led to a number of refinements to the designs.
On 31st July 2010, Lend Lease lodged a Concept Plan Amendment for Barangaroo South with the NSW Department of Planning. Following the statutory public exhibition process and further design refinements in response to public submissions, the Minister for Planning granted approval of Barangaroo Concept Plan Modification 4 in December 2010.
This sets the framework for the delivery of the buildings and the public domain. Further project applications will be required for individual buildings, the first of which was approved in March 2011.
